As reported a couple of weeks ago John Dehlin pulled the plug on MoSto because it was eclipsing the rest of his life. Since taking it down, he has been smothererd with the DAMUnacle's love and has realized it needs to be resurrected. Yes, for the paltry sum of only $2000/month it will go back online. And for $4000/month John will grow it into a veritable hub of all things Mormon and Media, casting himself as Jon Stewart, Tim Russert, Charlie Rose and Ken Burns all wrapped up into one charming Mormonism questioning media vanguard. Wow, John, now that is the kind of narcissism I love and respect. But why stop there John? Pull in David Letterman, Jay Leno and then cast your future in parallel to Ted Turner, Rupert Murdoch and Sir Richard Branson as well. You can be the Head DAMU! Now, all you have to do is convince a group of people who are united by their hatred of all things Mormons, and little else, to unite under your banner and give you money.

UPDATE: John weighs in on the comments to let people know what is going on in his life and with the MoSto blogsite.

I'm guessing there are 100-200 people involved in the 'Nacle at this time. Of course that's a guess.

What Dehlin needs to pray for is that one or two wealthy fans of his will be willing enough to foot a major percentage of the bill, if not the whole thing.

Otherwise, I don't think it's going to happen.

Wouldn't we all like to blog full-time for money. But so far no single 'Nacler has achieved Dooce-like popularity.

I am sure FAIR, FARMS, SHIELDS and the More Good Foundation will be pledging.

I've told Dehlin before how to lower his bandwidth costs. Nobody listens to me!

I think that it is a bit unfair to withhold the full archive of comments and such because it is a product of the community. It is his site though and he can hold a gun to its head if he wants. But this is an odd way to do it. I'd suggest looking at what others have done. Usually it isn't as dramatic as this. daringfireball, kuro5hin, and slashdot are the examples that come to mind quickly.

For the lazy hostage taker that is too busy threatening his own site to do the research mentioned above I'll list some simple ideas. I would suggest putting up banner ads, making the public downloads bit torrent only, and selling subscriptions as well. Subscribers could get benefits like not seeing ads and getting direct downloads, and maybe even downloads a day early. Though having them use bit torrent too would be helpful. In fact, he should give away subscriptions to people on fast connections that are willing to leave all the torrents up 24/7.

If he has really kept as many people from going into apostasy as he claims, then the church ought to pay him. Think of all the tithing the church is getting from all those hundreds of souls...

Assuming that he doesn't want to implement my common sense suggestions, John could always arrange a secret meeting at Utah Lighthouse Ministries with George Smith in order to discuss funding over fondue.

I'd take $2000 a month to blog. I bet Bill would never complain about me being on the computer again.

Now that I think about it, it's costing me money to be a blogger. Hmmm....
